Progress!

The week started off on a low with the weather being so cold and with cold weather comes moody kids, with the cold Monday morning chill upon us the tutors decided to tutor the grade two’s for the morning session.
First up was 2A, playing tutoring games and reading games with them followed by the 2B with the same process. The kids worked in groups but at the same time getting individual attention, the process went very smooth and the kids were having a ball of a time and mite I say that the behavior was excellent and the kids energy levels toward the games and reading were so high and the tutor’s were absolutely enjoying themselves with these kids.
Many of these kids are not on the level that they should be because they were never taught how to by their parents and also reading in the heideveld community a huge problem because of gangsterism is being a major factor in the community. Some parents are not interested in the kids schooling and not taking the initiative to sit down with the kids every night to improve their kids literacy skills as we continue to go forward in faith GOD BLESS.

What a blast!

The week started out as any other week, little did we know that it was going to be a blast?

Monday morning we as coaches started taking the children out for some sports, with the children’s excitement levels through the roof, I as a GCU coach I felt so privileged and honoured to take these young ones out for some sports activities. Being kids they were always going to be competitive so myself, Gogo, Cody and Michael decided on a soccer tournament for the boys and a basketball and netball tournament for the girls.

When the session ended they were all running to us begging us for an extra half an hour but unfortunately we could not and they proceeded to class but before they proceeded to class they thanked us for taking them out and as a coach there is no greater joy than in hearing another kid thanking you what you did that brought warmth to my heart.

The week proceeded and we took varies grades out for sports but these young ones are truly something else they are starting to steal our hearts with every session that goes by myself, Gogo, Cody, Bryan and Michael can fully agree that this week has been a blast, we continue to go forward in faith God bless.

Exceeding expectations!

Last week we started tutoring the children from the school and I was surprised to how well the tutoring went. Working in groups makes things so much easier and it’s more effective. The children are divided according to their literacy levels therefore there is no pressure within the groups. One of out focused is to emphasise on the word team. Working together and helping each other to work toward a common goal. To see the kids work hard and at the same time enjoying themselves was the greatest encounter of success. These lessons will have an EFL focus to help children overcome the language barrier they face in literacy and reading through fun and games.

The tutors on the other side feel more confident to exceed their expectations in order for the kids to be successful. We are really doing our best to create a comfortable environment in order for the kids to give their best and so far we can proudly say we are on the way to accomplishing that, god bless.
